New New England: Summer 2015 Juried Exhibition

About the guest juror:
Trevor Smith is the Curator of the Present Tense at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, USA where he leads a cross-departmental team working with artists to explore how creativity and cultural change emerge at the intersections of cultures, disciplines, or technologies. Smith studied at the University of British Columbia and has held curatorial positions at museums in Canada, Australia and the United States. Known for working closely and collaboratively with artists, Smith has produced exhibitions and commissions at PEM with Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, Candice Breitz, Nick Cave, Peter Hutton, Michael Lin, Susan Philipsz, Jo Ractliffe, Charles Sandison. Previous projects include Singapore Biennale 2011: Open House, Martin Creed: Feelings (CCS Bard), Andrea Zittel: Critical Space (New Museum and Contemporary Art Museum Houston) and The Divine Comedy: Francisco Goya, Buster Keaton, and William Kentridge (Art Gallery of Western Australia). A national tour of Strandbeest: the Dream Machines of Theo Jansen will open at PEM this September.
How to Apply
Applications are made through an online form. Up to 6 jpgs of artwork may be uploaded for consideration. Payment is made in the last step of the application. Please find details and information on eligibility below and on the New New England Application Instructions page.
This is a New England call. Open to MA, CT, ME, NH, VT & RI Residents. Submitted work must have been created within the last five years, complete and presentation ready.
Online submissions only. Artists may submit up to 6 works. Work in all media is encouraged.
Deadline for Submission
Submissions must be received by 11:59pm on Sunday, June 21. No late submissions will be accepted. Applicants will be notified of their status on Thursday July 2.
Payment of $25 for 1-3 submissions, $40 for 4-6. Payment must be received by the submission deadline.
General Artwork Size Restrictions:
2D (painting, drawing, photography, etc.) Max Dimensions: 60” W x 108” H (40 lbs. max)
3D (sculpture, assemblage, installation) Max Dimensions: MUST be self-supportive or mountable; may not exceed 108″H x 30″W x 30″D. Installations must be simple to assemble or installed by artist.
Time Media: No length restrictions. Submit with links to streaming or DVD. Note: A/V equipment must be provided by the artist. See FAQs for more information.
Size Restrictions for Artwork To Be Shipped:
Shipped 2D artwork may not exceed: 40”W x 40”H , 40 lbs.
Shipped 3D artwork may not exceed: 30” W x 30”D x 40”H, 40 lbs.

We make these size restrictions due to the capacity of our space, and we appreciate your cooperation. We are a 700-square-foot, one-room gallery. Typically, our Juried Exhibitions show between 20 and 40 artworks.
