The Allegory of Breaking Light is informed by natural phenomena in Sudan through the filters of the artist’s corporeal sensation, memory, and through the cognitive experience of synesthesia; the close pairing of senses in brain development. Join and discuss the links between abstract narratives of the mind, symbolism shared within context, and perception.
After the talk there will be a life musical performance. This intimate concert of colliding instrumentation in the setting of a light-based art installation will explore the concept of “rift” as a sound and symbol. The artist’s response to Sudan – its vast planes of land broken by deep fissures at the time of the nation’s split into two entities – will be expressed in light and sound as it informs a collaboration with musicians.
