You: an exploration in dance + music

April 16, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

- $10
open + urbanity

You.

Gallery 263 is pleased to host ‘You’, the second of three collaborative experiments this Spring between members of Urbanity Dance and open. These events investigate questions of community, self, and connection. Their hope is that by spontaneously moving and creating sound together we can come closer to some answers. And by together, we don’t mean just the five of us. We mean you, the audience, too. Our journey takes place in three monthly installments that happen in a certain order, just like growing up. Rather than walk, we will dance, sing, play, scream, hum, hug, and laugh from here to there.

Please come with the expectation that you will not be sitting quietly the whole time. Instead, you will be an active participant in and shaper of the journey, asking these questions with us. As a team.

open (free improvisation)

We are open for two reasons. First, when you improvise, you need to be physically and emotionally open – both your ears and your hearts. Secondly, we hope that the experiences we share with you open us up to each other. Maybe, when we all leave the room, we will be a bit more connected than when we came in. It’s hard to be truly open, but try it with us and let’s see what happens.

open (free improvisation) started as an open jam session at Boston University. Often, we will play music together and make weird sounds. But sometimes we’ll just talk about life. open is comprised of harpist Charles Overton, percussionist Caitlin Crawley, and bassist Alex Goodin.
