Described as “the cure for alienation” and “music that’s not about means to ends but about meaning and transcendence”, Falsa (Philly) is an amazing musical experience rooted in 14th century Sufi music. The effect of listening to Falsa is to be transported both inwards and across centuries of joys, sorrows and longings. https://soundcloud.com/falsamusic
“A language around love and ecstasy as fundamental to the human experience. An abiding recognition of the astonishing complexity of being human. A tenderness around the most important, deeply felt emotional and psychological needs. And a cultural mechanism whereby satisfying these does not have to be a struggle. That’s Sufi Music.” – Falsa
Young Familiar is an invocation of a chthonic force, both ancient and timeless, creeping the multiverse and flickering into and out of our existence. Ben Kosznik (Bent Shapes, Christians & Lions) crafts songs as protection spells, drawing on independent and traditional musics, folklore, and the radical political acts we perform and encounter every day for inspiration and energy.
