Gallery 263 is pleased to invite Massachusetts-based visual artists working in drawing, painting, collage, photography, fiber, and other two-dimensional media to apply to our new Small Works Project. The aim of this project is to present original, quality artworks in our flat files in the gallery and on our website. Artists will be selected by the staff and board of Gallery 263 based on the quality of their work and commitment to their practice. We invite artists of all career levels to submit.

Flat File Presentation Dates: April 2021–April 2022

Qualifications, Restrictions & Suggestions

  • Only Massachusetts-based artists and students are eligible for consideration
  • 5 images of work including: title, year, media, dimensions, & price
  • Work should have been made within the past five years
  • Drawer dimensions are 16” x 34”, 1/2″ thick. Any works that exceed these dimensions will not be considered.
  • Submissions should take into consideration that the total depth of works that will be stored stacked like works on paper should not exceed 1/2” total due to the depth of the sides. Media that cannot be stacked may have depths up to 1/2” inch. Due to the nature of the drawers, works on paper and other flat 2-D media are ideal.
  • Each image submission should be no larger than 1200 pixels on the longest dimension
  • File should be labeled as such: LastName_FirstName_Title_Year.jpg
  • Submitted work should be unframed and unmounted
  • $5 submission fee

Many factors may influence the panel’s decisions for selecting artists for the Small Works Project. The review panel will select 12 artists for the 2021 Small Works Project at Gallery 263 for a duration of 12 months (April 2021 through April 2022), and during this time selected artists are able to add or remove artwork from their flat file. Read more about our mission here.

Artwork Sales

Artwork purchases will be processed directly through the artist, via PayPal or Venmo, with confirmation of receipt from Gallery 263 before releasing artwork to buyer. Gallery 263 does not take a commission for sales; however, we suggest a 25% donation. Donations from artwork sales contribute to supporting Gallery 263, a 501(c)(3) non-profit community arts organization.
