Prospectus

It’s no secret that human activities are drastically impacting our environment and climate while affecting vulnerable wildlife and entire ecosystems. Artists have always been inspired by the beauty of nature, but how is this relationship evolving when we know flora and fauna are disappearing? WILD—a national exhibition at Gallery 263 juried by Jane Winchell—invites artists to submit work that considers their definition of ‘wild’ in a time of planetary change.

Submission Deadline: February 1, 2020 at 11:59 PM
Exhibition Dates: February 20–March 14, 2020

About the Juror

Jane Winchell has been the director of Peabody Essex Museum’s Dotty Brown Art & Nature Center since its founding in 2003. She started at PEM in 1992 as curator of the Natural History collection and led the development of the museum’s original Art & Nature Center, as well as the newly revamped and expanded Center that opened in 2013. She has curated more than 15 interdisciplinary exhibitions on myriad topics at PEM, ranging from water as art to visual perception. Her background is in the natural sciences and the performing arts. She holds a B.A. in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic, and two graduate degrees – an M.S. in Science Communication and an M.A. in Biology – both from Boston University.

The photograph featured in ‘WILD’ is courtesy of past Gallery 263 exhibiting artist Kateri Quirk.
