Small Works Project: Julia Emiliani

Born in 1993 in Florida, Julia Emiliani is an artist and illustrator now living and working in Somerville, MA. She earned a BFA in Illustration from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2015. In her work, Emiliani examines the documentation of everyday objects. Drawing from experience as a commercial artist, Emiliani finds inspiration in her surroundings and uses fields of flat color, gradients, and Instagram-like compositions to juxtapose her subject matter. In their careful depiction, Emiliani uses painting as means of meditating on a single moment in an otherwise snapshot-oriented world. When she’s not illustrating, you can find Julia curating her collection of vintage objects, dreaming of fashion, and managing her Etsy shop of illustrated goods called Over it Studio.
